We’re excited about the opportunity for GRARC to partner with HVARC for Field Day, and we believe this has the potential to be a very positive experience for both clubs.
HVARC has already secured a Field Day location and they have put together a solid setup plan. Operations will be centered in two main areas. One trailer will be dedicated to two CW stations, and the other operating area will be located outside the building they rented for Field Day.
There had originally been a plan to include an FT8 station as well, but unfortunately the operator who was going to provide that setup broke his hip and will not be able to attend. Even so, there will still be meaningful operating opportunities, along with a relaxed and welcoming environment for anyone who wants to participate.
There is also a small indoor area available for people to gather, visit, and socialize. No one is required to operate, so everyone is welcome to come out, enjoy the fellowship, learn more about Field Day, support the clubs, or simply spend time with other amateur radio operators. Please note that there will be no overnight operating.
Food will also be part of the day. Coffee and doughnuts will be available during setup, and HVARC is planning an evening meal with hamburgers, brats, and hot dogs. They have invited people to bring a dish to pass if they are able, but that is completely optional and not required.
Chuck also mentioned that bringing a chair would be a good idea, just in case extra seating is needed.
While GRARC is joining this effort somewhat last minute, we see this as a great opportunity to build a stronger relationship between the two clubs. Our hope is that this Field Day partnership works well for everyone and becomes a stepping stone toward even more cooperation in the future.
HVARC has also indicated that they would be open to discussing a different location in the future, possibly one that is more central to both clubs, to help encourage even greater participation.
Overall, this is a great chance for GRARC and HVARC members to come together, share knowledge, enjoy fellowship, operate radio, and strengthen the amateur radio community in our area. We encourage everyone who is able to come out, take part, and help make this a successful and enjoyable Field Day for both clubs.
