The Amateur Radio Emergency Service (ARES) is a nationwide network of licensed amateur radio operators who volunteer their skills and equipment to support emergency communications when traditional systems fail. ARES plays a vital role in ensuring reliable communication during disasters and public service events, helping bridge critical gaps when seconds count.
The Great River Amateur Radio Club actively supports ARES through regular training exercises and real-world preparedness in partnership with the Dubuque County Emergency Operations Center (EOC). Our ARES team stands ready to assist during emergencies, having participated in scenarios such as a simulated search-and-rescue for a missing boy in the Mines of Spain, using a foxhunt transmitter to practice tracking skills.
We operate on 146.475 MHz and are always looking for new volunteers who are passionate about public service and radio communications. Join us and be part of a team that makes a real difference when it matters most.
